Sarcoidosis Death – Drew Stein

Posted on June 21, 2011 by

One of my inspirations in this whole world of Sarcoidosis Drew Stein died from complications of the disease on June 18th 2011 at 2:22pm. He was 49 years old.

Drew contracted this dreadful disease on September 11th 2001 eleven days before his 40th birthday. He was a New York City resident at the time and lived in the area for about a year afterward. He was recently diagnosed (Late April 2010) with Sarcoidosis of the liver, spleen, lymphatic system, kidneys and lungs. He spent four days in the hospital being tested.

He was an inspiration to me and others at where he went by the name of DragonFire. All of the posts he had were very inspiring and made me laugh . . they made me have hope . . . Drew placed hope within my heart about this disease.

In one of his posts he wrote about falling and being hospitalized and then learning how to walk again. I wrote to him telling him to take care. What he wrote was inspiring and thoughtful even though he was the one who needed up lifting.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. The world has lost a true warrior.

I too chatted to Drew on inspire and he was a really amazing person. His strength and courage is/was to be inspired by. He fought hard with his wonderful family by his side. He talked fondly of his partner and daughter. He will be sadly missed. Fly high and free DragonFire, you will never be forgotten.

Drew was such a blessing in my life and the lives of many others. He could always make me laugh. Besides this awful disease we had our political and spiritual views that we had many a discussion on. Never one to back down from his views but always open to discuss and teach. He taught me that compassion is a great gift but not always excepted by others. But you just keep putting it out there in your actions. RIP Drew you will be missed.

I spoke to Drew a lot on my page and on the in-box he was a great help with helping me to except that this disease is not going anywhere. He had some wonderful quotes and was a fantastic loving guy to talk to. The same age as me as well I feel the world is going to be an empty place without this kind loving thoughtful guy.

My heart has been heavy every since I heard of Drew’s passing. I wish I could have talked with him more. I only knew him through the support group. My heart and prayers goes out to his family and friends. Drew had many, many friends on the support group. I understand that two other people passed away as well, from this illness, Sarcoidosis. I pray that you will comfort his family, dear Lord, I pray that you will bring an awareness about this illness and more funding towards research, I pray for all of us who have this disease that there will be a miracle or you will bring healing through finding a cure. I pray for those who have this disease that you will give them encouragement, hope, strength to endure all the side effects.

God bless the family of Drew and all his friends.

Drew was one of my first friends on Inspire. Being welcomed by him and his positive, uplifting spirit gave hope, inspiration and comfort. His larger than life personality made me smile many times.

He had concrete ideas and plans of making the world aware of sarcoidosis via a TV documentary of sorts. He was not one to quit or give in. Such an ndomitable, sweet spirit!!!!

Yesterday I planted a new bed of perennial flowers in his memory. Those white coneflowers have big happy blooms. From year to year they will be my “Drew flowers”, and I won’t forget the day he died, it came after my birthday. So, every year his memory will have a place in my heart. Drew, I won’t forget you.
